HEKKTA’s Property Portal – Australia

It’s property in Australia that is dominating the headlines this week, with two major skyscraper developments being announced, aswell as a drop in national house prices for the first time in six years.

Sydney is set to get a brand new skyscraper, which will be the city’s tallest building. Düsseldorf-based Ingenhoven Architects and Australian practice Architectus are to design the 79 storey building, which will only be beaten in height by the 309-metre high Sydney Tower observation point. Apartments will be the main feature of the skyscraper, with greenery incorporated throughout.

Australia is experiencing a national property price drop for the first time in six years, as Sydney and Melbourne drive prices down. This has been attributed to more choice combined with less urgency, and also tighter lending standards and the availability of credit.

Several architecture studios have entered in their designs for a new skyscraper in Melbourne, which if built, would become the tallest building in the country. Bjarke Ingels Group (with Fender Katsalidis Architects), Coop Himmelb(l)au (with Architectus), MAD Architects (with Elenberg Fraser), MVRDV (with Woods Bagot), OMA (with Conrad Gargett), and UNStudio (with Cox Architecture) have all entered their vision for the tower. The plan is for the supertall skyscraper to be a “lifestyle precinct” with a hotel, shops and apartments along with cultural and public spaces. HEKKTA’s favourite is the MAD-designed “mountain village” surrounded by foothills, with a hotel shaped like an illuminated cloud near its summit.
